Sonic Labs, formerly known as Fantom, has officially announced the launch of Chainlink’s cross-chain interoperability protocol (CCIP) on the Sonic mainnet. This significant integration allows developers to effectively harness the capabilities and infrastructure offered by Chainlink’s oracle network.

Through this collaboration, developers are now empowered to build and deploy decentralized applications that can interact seamlessly across the Sonic blockchain and other networks. In addition to CCIP, Sonic Labs has also embraced Chainlink’s Data Streams and Data Feeds, marking a pivotal step in enhancing decentralized finance (DeFi) capabilities.

This latest development comes on the heels of Sonic’s involvement in the Chainlink SCALE program, which began in September 2024. Sam Harcourt, the business development lead at Sonic Labs, expressed enthusiasm over the integration, stating, “Developers in the Sonic blockchain ecosystem asked for Chainlink, and we’re thrilled that it’s now live on Sonic mainnet.” He emphasized that these tools are essential for creating novel cross-chain use cases and powering the next generation of high-performance DeFi applications.

Key benefits include enhanced network security, the introduction of programmable and cross-chain tokens, and flexible messaging capabilities. Chainlink’s standard is already recognized and utilized by significant financial institutions such as Fidelity International, Swift, and ANZ Bank. Additionally, several leading DeFi projects, including Lido, Aave, and GMX, have also integrated with Chainlink technology.

Sonic itself launched its Ethereum Virtual Machine Layer 1 mainnet in December 2024, and earlier this month, it adopted the bridged USDC standard from stablecoin issuer Circle. This initiative is aimed at catalyzing developer engagement on the platform.
